Camp Character Philosophy

Camp Character is based on the philosophy that every child needs to experience success in order to develop social confidence. For a population of children with special needs, a structured and professionally supervised setting is necessary to create an environment conducive to success. We incorporate an extensive curriculum into our hands-on learning. Each child will complete activities that are developed on themes and skill development. From sunrise to sunset, your child will build social skills, character traits, and life skills that will increase their independence and integration. Our camp environment ensures that your child is provided with instructional and social support. Highly trained staff, including special education teachers and social workers, work together to provide a successful experience for every child.

Campers From All Walks

A common question asked is "What if my son/daughter is not clinically diagnosed with a disability, would he/she still benefit from Camp Character?" The answer is absolutely YES! Whether a camper has academic deficits, struggles with social anxiety, has difficulty with friendships, has been making inappropriate choices at home or school, or countless others, Camp Character is a great resource. Activities are broken down and campers can pursue the mastery at a comfortable pace.

Most critical to the success of Camp Character is our emphasis on the development of age appropriate social skills. Social skills, appropriate behavior, and expression of feelings must be taught, practiced and reinforced in order to fully develop.
